A Typical Week May Look Like This…
  • Develop comprehensive, on-time fiscal year budgets that accurately reflect expectations for all ongoing operations, as well as strategic initiatives and new, discontinued, or modified operations.
  • Deliver timely and actionable fiscal year forecasts that reflect all actual results, programmatic decisions, and modified assumptions.
  • Deliver financial analysis that drives profitable growth in existing programs and new initiatives.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working with all program owners and staff, to ensure that budget accurately and adequately funds all existing programs, operations, and approved strategic initiatives.
  • Establish annual budgeting timeline to ensure timely production of budget to accommodate scheduled Board of Directors and Finance Committee meetings.
  • Lead the forecasting process, working with all program owners and staff, to ensure that the Association’s current year financial forecast reflects actual results-to-date and expectations for all programs.
  • Review monthly actuals and analyze variance from budget and forecast to identify sources of variance. Meets with program leads to discuss variances and identify opportunities to further capitalize on areas of strength and address any areas of underperformance.
  • Collaborate with program owners, lead the financial analysis of all capital expenditures, acquisitions, divestitures, new programs or modifications to existing program pricing or features. Document all assumptions related to the financial analysis. Ensure that approved initiatives are reflected in budgets and forecasts consistent with financial analysis conducted during approval process.
  • Administer the Association’s financial planning software. Ensure that all program owners have sufficient access and training to input budgets and maintain forecasts.
  • Analyze programs and operations and recommend opportunities to increase revenue and manage expense.
  • Ensure compliance with all banking and debt covenants. Submit required monthly, quarterly and annual documents to the bank.
  • Lead the development, execution and maintenance of AFP’s risk management strategy. Coordinate annual insurance review and renewal process.

  • Possess high level budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis skills.
  • Ability and commitment to perform hands on, tactical and strategic work.
  • Ability to convey complicated financial information in layman’s language to stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and accuracy with details.
  • Seek opportunities to improve the budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis processes.
  • Four-year college degree in finance, accounting, business administration or a related field.
  • In-depth professional experience (minimum 5 years). Not-for-profit experience preferred.
  • Certified Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) designation, or ability to earn the designation within the first 24 months of employment.
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite Products: Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
